Ricky Cheeks, CLTD 

General Dynamics NASSCO

A San Diego native and third generation shipbuilder, Ric has worked as a supply chain professional  for over 20 years. Currently, he works as an industrial engineer for General Dynamics NASSCO (National Steel & Shipbuilding Company) and is also an instructor for the APICS San Diego Chapter.

He first served as an intern at General Dynamics NASSCO in 1998, while completing his studies at the California Maritime Academy, and returned nearly fifteen years later to fill a role as a logistician after having spent most of his career in global logistics management in the maritime industry. While at NASSCO, Ric has overseen the administration of its foreign trade zone status and helped the organization navigate tariffs imposed on steel and goods of Chinese origin. Ric also serves as a subject matter expert for the transportation of dangerous goods and project cargo.

Ric holds the Certified Professional Logistician designation from the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transportation, the Certified in Logistics, Transportation and Distribution professional certification from he Association of Supply Chain Management, as well as the Certified Dangerous Goods Professional designation from the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management. Ric has earned undergraduate degrees in International Business, Business Administration, and Economics from the California State University System, which included a minor in Asian Studies as well as a language concentration in French. He also has earned a Diplôme de Français des Affaires 1er degré from the Université Grenoble Alpes in Grenoble, France. Currently, he is pursuing a Masters of Science in Logistics and Supply Chain Management from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt from the University of California San Diego.

Homero Escandon, CPIM CSCP-F CLTD-F

Homero has over 23 years’ experience in Supply Chain and Operations roles across multiple industries and settings. He is currently VP of Manufacturing - Supply Chain & Operational Excellence for Biotix, Inc, a world class manufacturer of laboratory consumables and liquid handling solutions. His previous work has been for companies such as Northrop Grumman, LISI Aerospace, and United Technologies Corporation. Homero spent 11 years active duty in the United States Marine Corps, including two deployments to Iraq in support of the Global War on Terrorism. 

Homero holds a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership and a Master of Business Administration. His certifications include CPIM, CSCP-F, CLTD-F, Project Management Professional (PMP), Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt (LSSMBB), Certified Supplier Quality Professional (CSQP), Certified Professional in Distribution & Warehousing (CPDW), and Certified DISC Practitioner.

Homero began teaching with APICS in August 2018, and joined the Chapter Board of Directors in October 2018.  He is an APICS Master Instructor and Extended Studies instructor at Cal State San Marcos.


Susan P Franks, CPIM-F CSCP-F CLTD 

Sue Franks, CPIM, CSCP, APICS Master Instructor for CPIM, CSCP, and Instructor Training; APICS Associate Instructor for Lean Workshop, Principles of Operations Management, and the Global Sourcing Seminar.

Sue has over 25 years of management experience in Materials, Manufacturing, and Operations Management. She has an MBA in Production and Operations Management from San Diego State University; earned her CPIM in 1991 and CSCP in 2006.

She has experience in a variety of manufacturing environments from start-up to high volume, and has worked for companies such as Sherwood Medical, Medtronic, 3Com, and Hewlett Packard. She is currently owner and principal for HourGlass Consulting.

Sue has been an instructor for the San Diego Chapter since 2001, teaching all five of the CPIM Review Courses, a number of the modules for the Back to Basics series, and is on the staff for CSCP Review Courses and the Lean Enterprise series. She has served on the APICS Rewrite and Review Committees for Basics of Supply Chain Management, Detailed Scheduling and Planning, Master Planning of Resources, and Execution and Control of Operations.

She has served on the San Diego Chapter Board of Directors since 2004 as Vice President – CPIM Workshops; President; and Past President. She is currently serving as Vice President Education for the San Diego Chapter Board of Directors.

Sanford H Friedman, CPIM-F  CIRM

Sandy Friedman, CFPIM, CIRM, PMP, ITIL

Sanford (Sandy) Friedman, BS, MS, MBA, CFPIM, CIRM, PMP, ITIL, is the PMO Manager at CGI and an instructor in the Operations Resource Management Certificate Program at California State University San Marcos. Sandy has over twenty-five years of industry experience in management, project management, consulting, teaching, and systems development in aerospace and defense, biomedical, pharmaceutical, health care, as well as manufacturing, logistics and distribution industries.

Sandy is a frequent lecturer for APICS and PMI, has been a featured speaker at several conferences and symposia, and has taught at San Diego State University, UC San Diego, California State University, San Marcos, Fullerton, Dominguez Hills, and at USC. Sandy is a past president of APICS-Los Angeles, and recently served as Ambassador for the San Diego chapter. Sandy was also a Board member of the Los Angeles Aerospace and Defense Special Interest Group (LA-ADSIG), and is the recipient of the APICS Milt Cook Award for 2008. Sandy holds a BS from UCLA, an MS from the University of Iowa, an MBA from Boston University, and holds CFPIM, CIRM, PMP, and ITIL certifications. Sandy is also listed in various Marquis’ Who’s Who series.

Kimberly Kohler, CPIM CSCP  

Kim has over 15 years of experience in the supply chain field.  She has held positions in manufacturing, project management, production planning, and procurement.  She is currently working for Argonaut Manufacturing Services in Carlsbad.  Kim has also been a tour guide in Spain, China, and Germany. 

Kim has a Bachelor’s of Science Degree from the University of Wisconsin in Eau Claire.  It wasn’t until recently that Kim found her passion for supply chain.  Kim received her CPIM certification in 2015 and CSCP in 2016.

Kim began teaching CPIM courses with APICS in 2016 and has recently joined the Board of Directors as Director of CPIM.  She enjoys sharing her knowledge and passion with others interested in supply chain and operations.  She looks forward to meeting you at an upcoming APICS event.

Scott G Martin, CSCP  

Phoenix Manufacturing Inc

Scott is President of Lyon Technologies Inc. a leader in the design and manufacture of animal medical care equipment, manufacturing in California since 1915. Scott has over 20 years of experience in Aerospace, Medical and Industrial Electronics. Trained as a Mechanical Engineer in the Canadian Military he also holds a designation in Quality Assurance Management from the University of Manitoba, and Advanced Management from the University of Nevada Reno as well as additional technical course work at UCLA and Georgia Tech and is an APICS Certified Supply Chain Professional.

Scott has held the positions of Managing Director, Vice President & General Manager, Director of Operations, Operations Manager, and Program Manager for multinationals at both the branch and corporate level in Canada and the United States with long term assignments in Europe and Asia.
Scott is a past President of the Northern Sierra chapter of APICS, past vice president of APICS chapters in the US and Canada as well as a Senior Member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and American Society for Quality. He served as liaison for the Manitoba chapter of the Canadian Manufacturers Association and served on the Red River College curriculum advisory council for Industrial Electronics as well as an adjunct professor for the Colleges of Western Nevada and Truckee Meadows and currently sits on the School of Business – Global Supply Chain Management Advisory Board at Cal State San Marcos.


Jim McNeil, CSCP, CPIM-F, CIRM has been in the Supply Chain Management field for his entire career with 25+ years in the pharmaceutical and medical device industry. He is currently Director Materials Management with Pacira Pharmaceuticals. Jim has taught APICS certification courses in the CPIM and CSCP programs and was an instructor in Operations Management in the MBA program at San Diego State University and at the University of California, San Diego. He has presented numerous times at local and national APICS events including two International Conferences and is a past President of the San Diego APICS Chapter. He received his BS in Business Administration with an emphasis in Operations Management from SDSU.

Jin Odero, CSCP CLTD 


Jin Odero has over 20 years’ experience in Procurement, Supply Chain and Project Management in various manufacturing environments with responsibilities in materials and production planning, direct and in-direct procurement, category management, project management, product development and marketing, logistics and distribution. Currently, she is working at Dexcom, Inc. in San Diego.

Jin has been an APICS member since 2012 and an associate APICS instructor since 2015. She joined the San Diego Chapter Board of Directors in 2016 and has been the Director of Seminars since then.

She received her MBA from Auburn University, and APICS certification of CSCP and CLTD in 2013 and 2019 respectively.

Francisco has over 24 years of experience in the industry within operations, supply chain and continuous improvement, in the electronic, medical and logistics industries.

Francisco has a Bachelor of Industrial Engineering from the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) of Mexico.  He has a master’s degree in industrial engineering in Logistics, has master’s in Quality and Productivity by the ITESM Mexico, is a CQA certified by ASQ. He obtained his CPIM in 2004, CSCP in 2006, SCOR-P in 2016, CLTD in 2016 by APICS and Lean Manufacturing (SDSU in 2004), Lean and Operational Excellence by Van Gourbergen Belgium and Black Belt by ITESM in 2008. CS&OP (Certification in Sales and Operations Planning) in 2016 by ISOP. He is an APICS certified instructor since 2015.
