These volunteer leaders are eager to meet the needs of our membership and our community. We are here to assist and serve you. Current President

Homero Escandon, CSCP CLTD 


Homero has over 22 years’ experience in Logistics, Distribution, and Supply Chain roles across multiple industries. He is currently Director of Commercial Operations for Biotix, Inc. – a world class manufacturer of laboratory consumables and liquid handling solutions. He has previously held the positions of Director of Logistics; Sr. Manager, Warehouse & Logistics; Manager, Logistics & Inventory; Logistics Manager; and Logistics Engineering Manager. His private sector work has been for companies such as Northrop Grumman, LISI Aerospace, and United Technologies Corporation. Homero spent 11 years active duty in the United States Marine Corps, including two deployments to Iraq in support of the Global War on Terrorism. During his time in the military, Homero held roles such as Distribution Operations Manager, Logistics Systems Manager, Recruiter, Supply Chief, Supply Supervisor, and Supply Clerk.

Homero holds a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership and a Master of Business Administration. His certifications include CSCP, CLTD, Project Management Professional (PMP), Lean Six Sigma Black Belt (LSSBB), Certified Professional in Distribution & Warehousing (CPDW), and Certified DISC Practitioner.

Homero began teaching with APICS in August 2018. He currently teaches CSCP, CLTD, Lean Enterprise Workshop, Back to Basics, Logistics Basics, and Train the Trainer. He joined the San Diego Chapter Board of Directors in October 2018.

 

VP Administration

Brian Favela,  


Brian has almost a full decade of sourcing, evaluating, and incorporating specialty chemicals into flavor and food blends for the Food & Beverage Industry. A Chemistry graduate of the University of California San Diego, he has always been searching for nature’s most flavorful offerings as well as mankind’s best interpretation of them. The curious task of finding and selecting compounds for their flavor or functional roll has been an interesting journey to say the least. He will begin his track towards CPIM certification in 2020 and is excited to begin his term with the APICS San Diego Chapter Board of Directors.

Brian currently helps Metarom USA make and deliver the best flavors and caramels in the US though his position as Purchasing Manager.

VP Education

Kimberly Kohler, CPIM CSCP  


Kim has over 15 years of experience in the supply chain field.  She has held positions in manufacturing, project management, production planning, and procurement.  She is currently working for Argonaut Manufacturing Services in Carlsbad.  Kim has also been a tour guide in Spain, China, and Germany. 

Kim has a Bachelor’s of Science Degree from the University of Wisconsin in Eau Claire.  It wasn’t until recently that Kim found her passion for supply chain.  Kim received her CPIM certification in 2015 and CSCP in 2016.

Kim began teaching CPIM courses with APICS in 2016 and has recently joined the Board of Directors as Director of CPIM.  She enjoys sharing her knowledge and passion with others interested in supply chain and operations.  She looks forward to meeting you at an upcoming APICS event.

Norman L Carmichael, CPIM CSCP  


Norman has over 30 years of experience in manufacturing and supply chain operations.  He has held roles ranging from procurement and supply chain management to multiple executive roles in operation management at technology firms in San Diego.  From 2011 to 2016, he held leadership roles at multiple consulting organizations (IBM, CSC and Columbus) heading up teams focused on delivering ERP solutions to manufacturing organizations.  He is currently the Vice President of Operations at TrellisWare Technologies.

He has a BS in Business Management from University of Phoenix.  Norman has volunteered his time to the local APICS chapter since 2005 and is the current President of the APICS San Diego Chapter.  He also previously served on the APICS Board of Directors from 2012-2013.

Francisco Trejo, CPIM CSCP  


Francisco has over 24 years of experience in the industry within operations, supply chain and continuous improvement, in the electronic, medical and logistics industries.

Francisco has a Bachelor of Industrial Engineering from the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) of Mexico.  He has a master’s degree in industrial engineering in Logistics, has master’s in Quality and Productivity by the ITESM Mexico, is a CQA certified by ASQ. He obtained his CPIM in 2004, CSCP in 2006, SCOR-P in 2016, CLTD in 2016 by APICS and Lean Manufacturing (SDSU in 2004), Lean and Operational Excellence by Van Gourbergen Belgium and Black Belt by ITESM in 2008. CS&OP (Certification in Sales and Operations Planning) in 2016 by ISOP. He is an APICS certified instructor since 2015.

Irina Weisblat, CSCP  


Dr. Irina Weisblat is an Assistant Professor in the Forbes School of Business and Technology at
Ashford University. She holds a doctorate in Educational Leadership from San Diego State
University (SDSU) and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from National University,
San Diego. Her educational background, business expertise, and leadership roles have influenced
her research interests that focus on educational effectiveness. She explored the question of
whether the skills that the colleges teach actually meet the needs of the global economy. She
believes in innovative teaching, as jobs in the 21st century require advanced competencies,
leadership, and critical thinking. In short, Irina is a Progressive Educator, Business Professionals,
and a Writer.

Progressive Educator, devoted to excellence in teaching and learning, scholarship and service;
experienced teaching a variety of Business, Management, Marketing, and Leadership courses to
diverse populations of students of graduate and undergraduate levels – in the United States and
abroad; skilled at curriculum design; passionate about research, and effective in collaboration;
with leadership roles in education and professional organizations, including California Business
Education Association; Business Education Statewide Advisory Committee for the State
Chancellor’s Office, California; and the International Society for Business Education (ISBE).
Business Professional, with 20 years of experience in international business and supply chain
management. Career highlights include international sales and marketing, global logistics
management and import-export operations at Honeywell, Qualcomm, Inc. and Ericsson Inc.
Academic Writer, Researcher, and Public Speaker, who delivered presentations at the bi-
national symposium, several state, regional, and international professional conferences, as well
as the SDSU Research Symposium. Dr. Weisblat published research-based articles in refereed
journals, book reviews in professional journals, and two textbook supplements on
Entrepreneurship. In recognition of scholarship and leadership accomplishments, the 2010
Scholarship Achievement Award was granted by the National Business Education Association
(NBEA); the 2014 Outstanding Business Educator Award was granted by California Business
Education Association (CBEA); and the 2015 Outstanding Scholar Award was granted by
Ashford University.

Dr. Weisblat received the 2015 Ashford University Outstanding Academic Scholar award. She
was also named Outstanding Business Educator and presented with the Scholarship Achievement
Awards. Dr. Weisblat is past President of California Business Education Association (CBEA)
and past President of the International Society of Business Education (ISBE). In the past three
years, Irina received the U.S. President’s Awards for Volunteer Service. Irina is an APICS
Certified Supply Chain Professional, CSCP™. She also received an Incoterms2020® Certificate
from the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).

Karl Crnkovich,  


Karl Crnkovich – Global Supply Chain Professional, Culture Builder, Communicator
For over 25 years, Karl has helped organizations solve complex problems and improve business
processes. He has expertise in Global Supply Chain, New Product Design, Strategic Sourcing,
and technology manufacturing operations. He is currently the General Manager at California’s
Zumar Industries, Inc.– one of the oldest establishments to manufacture high-quality signs and
traffic-safety products. Prior to that, Karl worked as a Strategic Sourcing and Manufacturing
Consultant for several consumer electronics and device manufacturer companies where Karl
helped manage supplier and contract manufacturer relationships in China, Malaysia, Indonesia
and Thailand. His private sector work has been for companies such as EDS Inc.(Hewlett Packard
Enterprise Company), Boston Micromachines, and Lynk Remote Technologies. Karl also spent
11 years active duty in the United States Marine Corps, where assignments included
deployments to the Middle East, Africa and Asia in support of the Global War on Terrorism.
Karl holds a Bachelor of Science in Business and a Master of Business Administration. He also
holds a post-graduate certificate in Global Supply Management.
